Anna Thompson: Broker of the Month

June’s broker of the month is Anna Thompson, a valued member of the Enness Private Office team. Hailing from Nottinghamshire, Anna started in the industry at just 17 years old, and demonstrated her drive and ambition by studying for her CeMAPs independently.

What led you to become a broker?

I always wanted to work in an environment where communication was key, such as sales. But it was also important to me that my work was meaningful and—I wanted to advise people, not just push to sell them something! Most people will need a mortgage at some point, and it’s important to give the right advice, so broking seemed like a good option for me.

I started my working life working on the phones at a small brokerage in Nottingham, which I found interesting and gave me a taste for the industry. I found I wanted more of a challenge, so I studied independently for my CeMAPs every morning before work—when I passed the first stage, my company were so impressed they supported me with finishing the qualification.  I also worked in the admin department, so I had a very thorough grounding in all aspects of the business.

I then worked as a broker at a well-known estate agents, which was also a valuable experience.

What motivated you to move south and join Enness?

Although I was enjoying my work, I found there was limited scope for negotiation and creativity. I became very interested in the private banking sphere—negotiation is one of my best skills, and I felt I would thrive in an environment where I had the freedom to build relationships with flexible lenders and negotiate rates with private banks.

I like to push myself, and I ultimately felt that Enness was the best brokerage in London so I was keen to work for them. I feel like I’m thriving as an Associate at Enness Private Office, and am excited to see what the future brings.

Are you working on anything interesting at the moment?

I’m currently working on some quite difficult portfolios. One of my cases is a portfolio filled with completely different properties, with different rental yields. I’m enjoying the challenge of figuring out the numbers across a range of different yields and interest rates—it’s quite fiddly, but I like something I can get my teeth into.

If you could buy a property anywhere in the world, where would it be?

I’m not too fussy about where—somewhere close like Spain would be lovely—but my dream property would have to be something by the beach. I love being by the water and find it incredibly relaxing, so a seaside retreat would be ideal. In the meantime, I’d settle for a flat overlooking the Thames!
